MIXING LEATHER DYES

Dyeing leather is an art, not a science. Variations in materials, conditions and artist touch will have a direct effect on the result. Fiebing Leather Dyes and Most Alcohol based Dyes may be combined and mixed to achieve intermediate colors and tones. In most cases the basic rules of color mixing apply.

Common examples:
Yellow and Blue = shades of Green

Yellow and Red = shades of Orange and Red

Red and Blue = shades of deep Purple to Lavender

Red and Purple = Wine

Brown and Yellow = shades of Golden Brown and Tan

Brown and Red = shades of Maroon

Mixing of various Leather Dyes will add an additional color variation to your Leathercraft Project. Be sure to test your color mixes before dying your entire Project. Enjoy your craft.

For Block Dyeing wrap a folded piece of cloth around a small block of wood and fasten the cloth in place with staples or brads. Dip a wool dauber into some dye and apply to the cloth on the block. Some good effects can be achieved on embossed and plain leather goods by rubbing lightly in long strokes.
